Question:
Hello, I had an abortion with methotrexate injection on 9/1/09 then took the miso tablets on the 5th and 6th everything went ok and I passed the pregnancy on the 11th. My question for you is…I did no have sex until 10/03/09 and we used a condom without any complications (didnt brake…) are there any chances of pregnancy (i’m nervous) and how soon after he passage of pregnancy will I get a period…I’d like to go on the depo shot but the doctor told me I have to wait to get my period…why? He said my period around he 12th of october. Also I think I might have heed ovulating around the time I had sex with the condom. What are the chances of me getting pregnant. I don’t want that again.

Answer:
Dear Molly,
If you used a condom and it didn’t break, you can feel confident that it worked and you are not at risk of pregnancy.  Most people who get pregnant with a condom either didn’t use it correctly or the condom breaks.

I am not sure why your doctor didn’t start your depo shot right away.  Irregular bleeding is common and normal after a methotrexate abortion – so unless you give the depo shot at the time of the abortion, it can be hard to know when you are getting your next period.  Hopefully your period will come soon, and this won’t be much more of an issue. Your other option is to look for another doctor who will start you on depo without having to wait.

I hope this is helpful,
